I am basing my evaluation on my past uses of other laptop computers, along with the major areas which can be important if you ask me. I’ve searched and looked with the model that has got the characteristics I need. For example, I do not deduct for insufficient an optical drive, since i knew going in, the process didn’t have got an optical drive.
Star 1 – Build High quality
The body is reliable. There may be no creaking, twisting. It feels just like a solid slab in your hands. The lid is extremely thin. Opens and closes efficiently. No binding inside the hinges, or twisting. Little flexing inside the display, however it is firm. The laptop computer is easy to carry and feels secure in your hand. The ability brick is rather small, 4″L x 1.5″W x 1.0″H. It’s 2 parts, brick, and cord towards the wall. Happens by using a cable tie. Very little fan noise. Runs cool to warm, after use. However, not hot. The battery may be by way of numerous charge/discharge cycles. The battery is fully cost and reports 9 hours and 44 minutes of life. Got about 6 – 7 hrs of total usage before putting it back about the charger. Therefore a full day of websurfing, and video playing, on and off. The surface is incredibly awesome, and easy to clean.
Star 2 – Ports
All ports are simple to access on the side on the sytsem. USB ports are an easy task to insert devices and oriented the correct way, therefore when the USB logo is up on the connector, then it inserts. RJ45 port on the ethernet port is defective. The cable will never lock in. I tested numerous cables, and many types of do the same thing. This needs for being corrected by ASUS, should not have got passed QAQC. Luckly I can use the wifi for the majority of network connections. But nonetheless a defect and needs to become fix.
Star 3 – Display/Web Camera
The display is clear and bright. Using in normal household lighting, I’ve not had any factors having watching screen, or seeing angles. Yes it really is glossy, along with the bezel. Appears fine in my experience. Attracts finger prints for the bezel. By using a soft cloth, the monitor cleans up nicely. The web camera functions as predicted for any 0.3 web camara. Not the greatest picture, but acceptable for any web camara.
Star 4 – Keyboard/Trackpad
The key pad will be the huge chicket style keys. The computer keys is nice to type on, along with little keystroke errors. The keys feel tight, and gives nice resistance. Don’t feel just like they will pop off, or break. They do not have got a loud tactile noise to them. I prefer the ASUS key pad. The trackpad could possibly be a bit of bigger, but is pretty good. Hard surface. Tracks well. The single option though is incredibly loud when pressing. Loud clicking noise when pressing the bar(TACTILE). But feels very solid like it’ll stand around many clicks.
Star 5 – Software
The laptop is LOADED using crapware. They did partition the harddrive in to a 100 GB C: and ~350 GB D: drives. I’ve already wiped it, and put on a clean set up of Windows 7 pro. Much better. Ensure you install all the drivers. I downloaded them with the website. Boot time pre-wipe was 60 secs., after wipe, it’s down to 40 secs. towards the logon screen. 10 secs to hit the pc after logging on. I’m old school, and so i believe I covered the license, and so i want the disks. I miss the days whenever you got All of the software on disk together with the process. It does come having a drivers disk.
General I provide 4 of 5 stars. This is a very well built laptop computer, that does not seem such as cheap plastic. The ethernet port is really a defect and should not exist. They lose points for all of the bloatware plus the fact I went ahead and wiped the HDD. Companies know we do not want it, so don’t load it. It’s name is crapware to get a reason. The noisey trackpad button additionally can be a turn off in my experience
